Reform of Admission Process: White in Action

BJ White held a conference of administrators, chancellors, deans, and admissions officials on how to fix (as if it was not fixed to begin with) the UI clout list. Once again, White sends out his ad nauseam and empty promise of "transparency."

Did we forget to mention the conference was behind closed doors?

So U of I Trustees and big shot "clouters" President Joe White and Chancellor Richard Herman get caught cheating honest students out of seats in the class in favor of those connected to the rich and famous. Now it takes 100 leaders, 8 weeks and a summit behind closed doors to fix an admissions process? How about running across the street to the local community college and borrowing their process? Welcome to the land of Blago where the polarity of right and wrong have been reversed.

This clout story is eerily similar to the nonsense U of I President White pulled on Governor Pat Quinn and Rahm Emanuel 2 years ago over the admissions-discrimination scheme involving military veterans at the College of Business. In the "Clout" scandal, U of I altered admissions standards to let in unqualified students. For "clout-less" military veterans, however, U of I altered admissions standards to keep them out after they applied. The same people involved in the Clout scandal were involved with the military veteran scandal, too… Joe White, Richard Herman and Larry DeBrock.

After Quinn wrote a protest letter to White and the Board of Trustees, White responded with a letter to Quinn and claimed MBA Admissions staff evaluated and admitted "blind" with respect to applicants' military status "unless an applicant chooses to include information about a military background." Now that's a bunch of high-minded hogwash, because every application and financial aid form for the College's MBA programs asks applicants about their military experience and funding from federal military aid programs (e.g., GI Bill). That's somewhere between deliberate obfuscation and an outright lie.

Mabye Quinn is just tired of being lied to by White.

If it takes 8 weeks to fix the Admissions mess at Illinois, my bet is that White is working an end game for another agenda which has everything to do with his arse and little to do with the rest of us at U of I.

For "clout-less" military veterans, however, U of I altered admissions standards to keep them out after they applied. That's somewhere between intentionally misleading and an outright lie.
