Another Teacher Molester in ILL

Reports the Chicago Tribune today, Plainfield North High School gym teacher Ashley Blumenshine was arrested after police approached a Kohl's store where she and a student were having sex Tuesday night.

Bizarrely, although she has admitted to the sexual acts, she will plead not guilty.

As many of the commentators of the Tribune have already pointed out, the fact that she faces a mere three-to-seven years imprisonment seems utterly absurd. Nearby the U of ILL in Urbana, Jon A. White has received forty-eight (an additional twelve for students abused in normal). Granted, Blumenshine ostensibly only stands charged for one count whereas White was found guilty of eight. Nevertheless, we share the posters expectation that "three-to-seven years" will be more to the tune of "three-to-seven months."

Unsurprisingly, there is no comment from the IFT, nor the IEA. A search made by we Hounds can find her in no listing for either affiliation.

[[Update 1-6-11]] The Tribune now states that Blumenshine has posted
$75,000 bond. After the recent strings of exposes on the blight of the supposedly-underpaid educator, one must wonder where she retrieved such an amount (easily above the average ILL citizen salary (before taxes) so quickly?

School daze

Judge Mike Jones has thrown out the lawsuit against McLean County schools for its role in the Jon Andrew White case. As everyone knows by now, Jon White was the Urbana school teacher who committed statutory rape with the blessing and knowledge of UI faculty members.*

We support the courage the families have in appealing the ruling.

Jones' said, as the N-G reports, that the lawsuits suggested that Normal officials passed off pedophiles to save face. Why? IFT backed-monies perhaps? This is ILL after all...

In fairness to Jones, at least he cannot be accused as a judicial activist. It would seem that he interpreted the letter of the law. However it begs the question: was this letter of the law equally invoked when/if Jones or any other county judge in ILL over saw a lawsuit that resulted from the Catholic priest scandals?

Further troubling is what business a Champaign County Judge has business doing ruling over events occurred in McClean County. The obvious answer: the lawsuits were filed in Champaign County. However, to use jurisdiction as a justification for dismissal in this case comes off as a self-fulfilling prophecy.

Jones writes in his ruling, "The public duty rule applies to schools. It essentially says municipalities don't owe a duty to protect individual citizens."

This is rather silly, since Jones' role of the municipality seems to directly contradict the definition of it's existence. As public education is coercive and mandatory, why in the world would it not be liable to protect individual citizens? On a larger scale, would not the municipality by its very nature be required to? If not the role of the municipality, then what is the role?

It seems the answer is to molest its citizens.

*In an act of cowardice and/or tacit guilt, the UI College of Education faculty directory no longer lists Gene Amberg. Does this mean that he is no longer teaching at the university? Or is it because it wants to hide the fact that they continued to employ an enabler to child molestation?

Teacher caught parking in Park Ridge

Another teacher-on-student legal action in the works in suburban IL. According to the Chicago Sun-Times

Jennifer Espinosa, 38, of Park Ridge, was charged with two counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse as a result of an eight-month relationship with a former
student, according to a Cook County Sheriff’s office release.

The police found the car parked with the pungency of pot coming from the car. Epinosa apparently felt that after the boy was expelled, her sexual abuse of him did somehow not qualify as statutory rape, and that she was legally exempt.

Questions that need to be asked:

1. Who at the school was aware of the relationship?

2. What is/are the Union(s) that Espinosa belongs to?

3. What amount has said Union(s) provided to her legal fees?

All these are important to consider. Thinking back to earlier this year, where Gene Amberg and Janice Bradley were found guilty of witholding mandatory reporting under state law suspected sexual abuse by teachers, it is of vital importance to grill school officials and faculty concerning any suspicions they might have had. Considering as well unions rules for tenured members, we need to ask how much of their money is moving in the case. The NEA's website, for example, gives guidelines for teachers on how to undermine the credibility of children and avoid prosecution, making it look more like an on-line banner for NAMBLA, rather than an "education resource" as they ludicrously claim.

In today's News-Gazette the IEA is growling once again, and Pat Quinn is de-clawed and in a corner with his tail between his legs on his pension plan that would include cutting down pension amounts for new state workers. Naturally, any plan that puts the well-being of the public before the well-being of the teacher unions has made their hair stand up.

As has been previously posted on this dog blog, the unions were more than happy to put us all in the current mess by
contributing unmatched quantities to the Blago boys club. This is particularly ironic when Ed Geppart rhetorically asked the crowd if Quinn was "an improvement?" (This was the same man that Blago personally appointed to the IL Board of Education in 2005).

With thousands of dollars to spare for indicted felons, why do the IFT and IEA insist that we must pay the penalty (and the bill)?

In other union-sponsored teacher statutory rape news, the L.A. Times reports that in addition to wasting away taxpayer-squeezed legal monies, the unions are paying teachers to sit on all fours and do nothing while waiting for misconduct trials and hearings to be resolved.

Tomorrow's Teachers

On Friday, the Daily Illini printed its list of celebrated faculty based on ICES forms from the previous semester. Interestingly in the category of Education was none other than Gene Amberg. Amberg, at best failed to report and ignored calls for an investigation, at worst an accessory to statutory rape, will be familiar to anyone who has followed the disgraceful Jon Andrew White case that occurred at the Thomas Paine Elementary School in Urbana, where Amberg was Superintendent during the time of the sex scandal. A useful breakdown of the child molestation case can be found at TeacherTrash here.

In an act of impudence and ludicrous oversight, (which we have all now come to expect as a hallmark of the University of Illinois administration) and despite being found guilty for failing to make mandatory reports on suspect child molestation by teachers, Amberg nevertheless still holds a clinical faculty position at the UI. We wonder if this is something that White and his administration are aware of, or does this by now coincide with the type of educational practices and belief that they hold to?
